The simple song that started it all

All I Am Is Yours was one of the very first songs I ever wrote—back in 2014 (more than 10 years ago! 😮) when I began leading the preschool ministry at our church. I had started searching for simple songs to help little ones move and learn about Jesus… but I couldn’t find quite what I was looking for.

So without really meaning to — I began writing my own.

The first batch of songs came to me during my weekly drives to Melbourne to visit my dear Nonna. I had a toddler and a baby (and another on the way!) and we’d spend Tuesdays at her house, eating together and singing Italian nursery rhymes.

On the way home my little girls often napped in the car. So I’d take the scenic route—just to preserve the quiet and let them sleep a little longer 😴

It was during one of those peaceful drives that this particular song was born.

If someone had told me back then that the tunes I was arranging while driving my sleeping daughters home from their great-grandmother’s house would one day be published, I probably would’ve laughed in disbelief!

And yet—here we are.

Those same little girls who slumbered while I wrote the songs would later sing on the track when we recorded it. If you listen carefully, you can hear their little voices calling out, “are Yours!” (Mind you, by that time, there were also two little sons joining in too!)

By the time we made the video clips in July last year, my kids were nearly TOO BIG to be on set doing the actions.

But if you do watch this video, you’ll spot my tall 11-year-old, second-born Hattie, on the far right in a purple t-shirt.

In a way, Hattie’s presence in this video symbolises the journey of Little Music Church. She was the sleeping baby when the song was birthed ten years ago. Since then, a bunch of children have grown up with this music under the roof of our local church—and now children anywhere can hear it… and, by God’s grace, find Jesus through it.
